COMMENTS: This ride is probably the most riden "classic" ride of the canyons area. Highly recommended for first tijme visitors to this area. It is very easily accesed from the freeway. There are many extension loops to please even the most hardcore rides (Horsethief, Moore Fun and Steve's). Awesome views of the Colorado River area. Impassable when wet! STARTING POINT: From Grand Junction take I-70 to the Loma Exit (Exit #15). Cross over the interstate to the south and turn right on gravel road. Just short of the weigh station, turn left, through the and follow the frontage road for about 1/2 mile until you come to a the parking area. TRAIL TYPE: SINGLE TRACK 90%, DOUBLETRACK 10%
APPROXIMATE RIDE TIME: 2-3 hours DIFFICULTY: Moderate with some technical sections
RIDE DESCRIPTION: From the parking area there is a fork off the frontage road, take the one on the left, that curves back up the hill. From here, ride down the road and keep and eye out for the ascending jeep road on your right at mile 0.6. There are small signposts and the trail is easy to follow as it is very well worn. Pass Horsethief cutoff at mile 2.1. You can choose the Steve's extension at mile 4.4 or opt to stay on the doubletrack and ascend to the saddle where Moore Fun cuts to the left. From here ride down the short hill to the frontage road. Follow the frontage road 2.1 miles back to parking lot/trailhead. MAP OF RIDE: [HIGH RESOLUTION MAP]
