STARTING POINT: From Gand Junction, travel west on Grand Avenue, which turns into Broadway. Cross over two bridges, at the next stop light turn left on to Monument Road, follow the signs to the Colorado National Monument , go approximately 1.5 miles, there will be a large gravel parking lot on the left marked with a BLM sign for the Tabeguache Trail. TRAIL TYPE: SINGLE TRACK 90%, DOUBLETRACK 10%
APPROXIMATE RIDE TIME: 1.5 hours DIFFICULTY: moderate with hills and moderate technical sections
RIDE DESCRIPTION: Start at Tabuguache Tralhead parking area and go up the dirt road to the southwest. At mile 0.5 the road turns right up a short steep hill. Continue on the road until you reach the bottom of Widowmaker Hill at mile 1.5. You will know the Widomaker when you get to it. Start back downhill from here. Take the singletrack heading back north. Don't take the trail to the east (Holy Cross). As you head north you will go through the Lemon Squeezer (two large rocks with a narrow trail) around mile 1.8. Continue down the trail until it forks. Take the right fork. The left fork heads directly back to the parking lot and is a good cutoff for a short ride. The right fork is at mile 2.2. The trail heads straight through the saddle at mile 2.5 and continues out the ridge. After a good view, you will descend off the ridge and curve left into the valley. The trail now heads back uphill through the vallley. You will come back to the trail crossed at the saddle (mile 4.1) and turn right (west). Continue west across to the next ridge. Go right (north) down the ridge. The trail will switchback back into the valley and you will arrive back at the parking lot (mile 5.4). MAP OF RIDE: [HIGH RESOLUTION MAP]
